The $30 billion pizza industry has grown dramatically from the local corner mom & pop pizzerias. Americans eat approximately 100 acres of pizza a day or about 350 slices per second.

Pizza Hut (founded in 1958), Dominos (founded in 1960) , and Papa John's (founded in 1985) have grown into pizza juggernauts with tremendous growth over the years. Pizza Hut, Dominos, and Papa John’s are by far the largest pizza chain in the US and Pizza Hut is the biggest in the world. But why has pizza become such a big business?

Is it because pizza is so simple to make and yet has so many endless ways of preparing it differently? Is it because pizza is so economical and therefore is a constant a staple on family and student food budgets? Is it because pizza is the ideal food for group-eating and the food of choice at parties, meetings, and other social and business gathering. Is it because ordering pizza has become so convenient, easy, and pizza places so ubiquitous that where ever you go you can find pizza place that will deliver you a hot pie?

Whether it is one or all of the reasons above, one thing is crystal clear… America loves pizza!
