A recent study released by the Columbia University Medical Center in New York City once again confirms that eating a Mediterranean-style diet rich in olive oil, whole grains, fish and fruit has definite health benefits. It has long been known that eating Mediterranean-style foods like pizza can help preserve cognitive brain power, and reduce risks for cancers, heart disease and premature death.

The Columbia study now shows that a Mediterranean diet has the same effect on brain health as not having high blood pressure. The researchers found that people eating Mediterranean-diets had 36% fewer strokes or brain incidents that are associated with progressive cognitive decline. The importance of healthy foods and healthy oils in your diet has never been disputed, and now the Columbia study shows that those who eat the healthiest probably have the healthiest brains too.
