Domino's Opens First Store in Germany
Domino's Pizza will celebrate the opening of its first store in Germany this Saturday, marking its entry into the German restaurant market. Even though Domino's is a leader in the international pizza marketplace with over 9,000 franchised and company-owned stores in more than 60 countries, the company had no operations in Germany until recently making a move for expansion based on the country's growing market for pizza delivery.
The first store will located in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin, with several other initial stores opening in the greater Berlin area as well, followed by more franchises across the country in the coming year.
Germany is the largest market in Europe and a very attractive location for international foodservice operators who last year saw revenues in the for-profit foodservice industry reach over 30 billion Euros. Germany has consistently shown good growth in many food industry segments over the past two years, with fast-food restaurants showing especially good growth. The Managing Partner of the new Master Franchise of Domino's Pizza in Germany, Birgir Thor Bieltvedt, said of the opening, "Germany is an ideal location for our expansion plans. With a large customer base that values convenience and quality, Germany provides the right conditions for our business to succeed."
Domino's has been working with the Germany Trade & Invest's team of industry experts with its plans to enter the German market since 2008. The organization helped conduct market research and assisted in helping Domino's to find qualified business partners and qualified personnel. Domino's Pizza was also assisted in the site selection and recruitment process by Berlin's premier economic development agency, Berlin Partner GmbH. Germany Trade & Invest advises foreign companies seeking to expand business in the German market and well as providing information on foreign trade to German companies seeking to enter foreign markets.
